Joell Ortiz - Covers The Classics

coverstheclassics1

Download here

Joell Ortiz is one ill MC. He takes some of our favorite joints from back in the day and goes the fuck in! My boy Eddie and I often talk about the rappers out today and one of the questions he asks is “Could this rapper have been successful in the eighties? The nineties??” Its a perfect question if you ask me. Joell Ortiz has proved on this tape that he could have hung with the best of them from any era. That is serious people. Ask yourself, can Red Cafe, Uncle Murda, Gucci Mane, or any of these other guys done that? I dunno, its a good question………………..

FOUNDATION’S FINEST 20 MC’S OF ALL TIME

I feel that when discussing the top MC’s of all time there should be four guys that are automatically at the top. I don’t know if anyone ever watched Wheel of Fortune, but eventually what they did was remove R S T L N and E from the available letters to guess because they were so common in every phrase. I say this to say that I believe that 2 Pac, Biggie, Nas, and Jay-Z should be automatically in the top four. This list has been created based off lyrics, delivery, flow diversity, content, wordplay, voice, and creativity.

1) Biggie - Yes, I am making Biggie number 1. His voice could induce urgency and security at the same time. Story telling was phenomenal, delivery was 2nd to none, and I can not think of one Biggie song I have heard that was garbage. His worst track is better then 90% of today’s rappers best tracks.

2) 2 Pac - Close 2nd to Biggie. Pac was a revolutionary. His ability to bring you to a place emotionally was special. If you were sad, happy, angry, grieving, or whatever, there is a Pac song that could assist you in processing that emotion. There was no body better at doing this besides 2 Pac.

3) Jay-Z - Jay-Z the hit maker. Longevity, flow, voice, lyrics, delivery, diversity, wordplay, Jay-Z has it all. The ONLY reason Jay is 3rd to me is because I think Big’s voice trumps Jay’s and Pac’s emotional inducing music had more of an impact. After that though, Jay is above everybody. Jay-Z had the ultimate swagger and the whole world believed it.

4) Nas - Prophet. Street poet. Jay-Z is to Biggie what Nas is to 2 Pac. Illmatic brought the east back in 1994. The smooth flow, lyrical prowess, and hypnotizing stories has had us loving Nas for over 15 years now. Jay trumps Nas lyrically to me though. Even though I think Nas won the battle with Jay, I still have Jay above Nas, sorry to all you Nas fans!!

5) Kool G Rap - The 1st realest gangsta rapper to me. G Rap was ahead of the times. His rhyme schemes were so complex for the times that if any of the rappers said half the things he said that would be crowning these fools out here.

6) Big Daddy Kane This guys delivery was out of control. To me it is hard to compare him to G Rap since they had a different style. At the time Kane was the best at doing what it was he did. Nobody had his style, he was an original.

7) Jada Kiss The punchline king. The priceless voice that is so clutch that it almost doesn’t matter what he says, but he has always said something. Jada Kiss is the streets and if he never changes his content it will not matter because he is the best at representing it.

8) Big Pun Unbelievable MC. Delivery was insane. Pun was an MC’s MC. The way Pun masterfully molded words together was crazy. If you dis-agree please just listen to The Dream Shatterer . Lyrical monster.

9) Rakim Know the Ledge. Paid in Full. I ain’t no joke. Hits people. Lyrical, feel good hits. Add Rakim’s vicious wordplay, delivery, and diversity and you have “The God”. Many of you young buck’s need to step ya game’s up and know where rap is coming from.

10) Eminem I didn’t like Em when I first heard him. Then I heard all the mixtapes and freestyles. Eminem is the number one battle rapper of all time. One of the most creative lyrically of all time. His voice can sometimes be annoying though. White, Black, Yellow, it doesn’t matter. Eminem is one of the greatest to do it of all time.

11) KRS-1 - The Teacher. Most MC’s create the gangsta persona, KRS deemed himself The Teacher. Awesome. KRS had a special and unique way of portraying what was happening in the ghetto’s of America without sounding too preachy. Add on his multiple styles that he could spit at you from verse to verse. Ghetto Blueprint, Criminal Minded, and the list goes on. Check them people.

12) Busta Rhymes - Busta is one of the most under rated MC’s of all time. Busta has a crazy catalog of hits and styles that many can not compete with. His rhyme schemes are so complex that I am sure it is difficult for today’s rap fans to even pick up on. Most MC’s who can create such vicious rhyme patterns have problems turning them into hits. Not Busta.

13) Scarface The REAL king of the south. Scarface is a lyrical monster and great story teller. Another rapper who can induce emotion. If you don’t know about Scarface you better ask somebody.

14) Big L - Harlem’s finest. Real swagger. Lyrical beast with a monster delivery. Wordplay was masterful. Big L passed before his time and we miss what could have been.

15) Black Thought - Another MC who I feel is completely under rated. His group unfortunately out shines his lyrical ability. I’ve always wanted to hear Black Thought over some Premier, Pharrell, and Timberland production. Black thought NEVER spits wack verses.

16) Snoop Dogg - The Dog Father. Doggy Style? Classic shit. Created his own flow and style. Freestyle game was crazy. Go back and listen to his verses on The Chronic and tell me he doesn’t belong on this list.

17) Ludacris - Hailing from Chicago, representing ATL, Ludacris has never let down with his creative and entertaining rhyme schemes. Ludacris is the #1 current MC in the South right now.

18) Andre 3000 - Outkast has been going strong for over 13 years. ATLiens is one of my favorite albums of all time. Andre has effectively switched Styles multiple times and pulled all of them off effectively.

19) Mos Def - A man of many styles. Ok ok, I know that he doesn’t have more then 2 albums which includes the Blackstar album. But there is also his mixtape which is 4 discs called “You, me, him, and her” which, in addition to his 2 albums, displays more styles then I can count on my fingers.

20) Ghostface Killah - The slang creator. Ghostface also created his own stlye which is important to me when talking about some of the greatest MC’s. There is nobody that ever sounded like GFK and there hasn’t been since.

That is Foundation’s 20 MC’s list! What’s yours?????

The Madd Publisher part 2

Today a friend of mine just sent me a copy of a twitter post of a popular blogger calling me a “douche Bag” for what I wrote a few days ago. I had to find that funny because I wrote that to show the ridiculousness of each of those statements. If any of you actually read the full rant then you will notice how contradictory many of these statements are. The rant is full of the fuck you’s that people call and email me with everyday. Complaining how they cannot get this blogger to recognize them, how they cant get their music on this website, how nobody wants to hear their music because their not from the South, how Ashe Roth really didn’t sell that many albums and the labels must have fucked with the numbers, and on and on and on. Do any of you know how tiring it is day in and day out to hear excuse’s from wack ass rappers about why their not hot? I come from a place of believing in personal responsibility. At no time have I ever blamed any one for not being successful, rich, or popular. I know the magazine game is not in a progressive state. I have known this for as long as you have. It is not the websites, bloggers, labels, artists, or anyone else’s responsibility to create a buzz for Foundation and I have never expected one. Do me a favor and re-read over my initial post. If you find your self saying any one of the lines that I wrote, then you are wrong. My mother always used to say “If you are pointing the finger at some one you got 4 pointing back at you”. Check out my Outro in the 10th issue (which I already blasted out). I am giving props to these sites. In everything I have ever written I challenge the masses to step up and ask themselves “What can I contribute to the culture versus take from it”. So Shake (2dopeboyz.com, plug) relax homie. I been told you through email and what not that I respect ya hustle. This is not a clean up either people. It is simply an avenue to provide understanding to those who might think I just lost my mind. My mind has been long lost!!

The Madd Publisher………………..

Fuck the record labels who push bullshit wack ass artists down our throats and fudge 1st week soundscan numbers to make it look like their investment was worth it. Fuck the labels for never having their artists best interest at heart. Fuck what the labels say is hot. I thought the fans were supposed to decide so…………….

Fuck the fans. Mindless rap fans who dont really have their own opinion but simply say whatever their local radio station says is hot. Fuck the fans for buying into what we consider the worst time for Hip Hop musically. No, really, its the fucking worst.

Fuck Joe Budden and that nut ass Joe Budden TV he makes with his girlfriend. That shit is fucking retarded.

Fuck Lil Wayne, dude aint lyrical and he couldn’t withstand verbal lashings from 90% of the rap cats from the east. We also NEVER want to see dude on ESPN again.

Fuck Diddy and his “lets go” bullshit. Lets go where???

Fuck Asher Roth, Charles Hamilton, Micky Factz, Wale, and all these other new artists who didn’t deserve the XXL cover last year.

Fuck all the other new artists who complained because they didn’t make it on the cover. Shut the fuck up and do something different then. Stop thinking because you were on the cover or even in a magazine that makes you hot. We already know that Hip Hop press is all about payola.

Fuck superstar DJ’s who think they are the best thing since sex when they never blend, cut, scratch, no transitions on their tape, and they charge everybody to get on.

Fuck Worldstarhiphop, Nahright, 2dopeboyz, Allhiphop, DX, HHG, and all these wack ass sites and blogs who do nothing except copy each others news, post up other peoples videos and never do their OWN interviews or create their own content. Fuck these sites for not raising the bar and forcing these artists and DJ’s to produce better quality music for us fans.

Fuck the WHOLE south. Tired of this sing songy, club bouncy bounce bullshit rap with no thought provoking lyrics just a bunch of marbled mouth mutha fuckaz who make no sense and have no grip on the English language.

Fuck the East for making any songs over South beats for a check. You mutha fuckaz ain’t getting paid anyway so why do it?

Fuck the East for hating on the South. Let them do them and stop complaining all the time about “who is going to bring NY back”. Stop trying to bring it back and just be original.

Fuck Twitter. We don’t give a fuck about the fact that you just got up, now your brushing your teeth, now your getting into your car, now your on your way to the club, now your leaving the club, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!! How about “I cant twitter for the next week because I am busy trying to sound differently then everyone else and make quality music”

Fuck Vibe and their wack ass lists. For real, Vibe?? Who the fuck made Vibe an authority on Rap music?? Go make an R&B list and shut the fuck up.

Fuck you for complaining about not being on the list or complaining about your position. One thing for sure about human beings is that we are never objective on our own lives.

Fuck the Ad Agencies for not cutting a check. The reason real Hip Hop is dying is because we have people on Madison Ave deciding what real Hip Hop is. Fuck em’ then, they can have it.

Fuck 50 Cent, Rick Ross, and their boring ass beef. Fuck any other “rapper” who makes you tube video’s where all they do is talk. If we wanted to hear you talk then we’d ask. We, the fans, want to hear music. SO start fucking rapping already!!

Fuck all of you who want shit for free. Freedom ain’t free. Work is required. If there are 250,000 people in every major city who think they are rappers then we are talking about 3-4 million rappers in the country, and that is a conservative number. Maybe 5-10 of those will actually see money and success off being a rapper. What are the rest of you going to do?????

and finally………………….fuck Foundation Magazine. Fuck us for buying into the hype that we could make a difference. Fuck us for not being able to put EVERY single rapper and DJ in the mag every issue. Fuck us for not compromising what we believe in in order to get a check, and now being broke. Fuck us for not giving up, even now, and continuing to put everything we got, literally, into trying to revive breath into Hip Hop. Fuck B.Mack for all his rants, ravings, and complaints.

If you don’t like this or anything Ive written here, fuck you!!!!
